Mr. Caleb J. Cook

Vice Principal

Master of Education in Teaching English as a Second Language
Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies
Teacher Certification (licensure in progress)

Mr. Cook has taught students of all ages and backgrounds in South Korea for almost twenty years. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies focused on Postmodern literature and short fiction writing and a Master of Education in TESL. For the last fourteen years, he has spearheaded curriculum development initiatives at his workplaces. He maintained and oversaw further development of an integrated curriculum for elementary students; created a multidisciplinary literature curriculum for middle school students; and co-authored four English conversation textbooks for university students. He has designed specific curricula for and taught classes on debate, public speaking, resume writing and job interviewing, and TOEIC Speaking.

In teaching, Mr. Cook is most passionate about subjects which empower students with the knowledge to be capable and self-sufficient. He is a strong proponent of technology and its use in and out of the classroom as a tool for learning. However, he does not place higher value on technical knowledge over practical skills, for example: learning cursive is as crucial as learning to type on a keyboard. Each skill complements the capabilities of the student, broadening his or her range of opportunities in life and future career.

Before coming to Korea, Mr. Cook lived in Oregon, in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. He spent his childhood in Eugene and then lived in Portland for ten years. His family is spread out across the globe in Texas, New York, and Italy. He has lived in Daegu, Seoul, and Gyeongju. Currently, he lives in Jinju with his wife, son, a jindo, and a pug. His hobbies are photography, writing, design, technology, and home improvement.

Three Cool Facts About Me
  • I left high school at 16 and went to community college where I studied photography and welding.
  • I owned and worked on three classic cars: a 64 Ford Falcon, a 65 Mercedes-Benz, and a 63 Ford Futura.
  • I grew up believing computers were a silly waste of time and tech was too hard to understand. I made a friend in my early 20s who taught how to fix computers and cars. His style of breaking things down and walking me through processes changed my life and helped me be the teacher I am today.

Mr. Cook teaches: Social Studies and Project Class.
