LIIP Curriculum Standards and Frameworks

The following standards are used to guide LIIP planning and curricular goals. The frameworks are used in all aspects of the three LIIP programs: LIIP AD, LIIP AS, and LIIP STEAM.
Course(s) Standards Synopsis
Language Arts, Mathematics, ESL Common Core State Standards (CCSS) establish clear, consistent guidelines for what every student should know and be able to do in math and English language arts from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Science Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), are three distinct and equally important dimensions to learning science. Each dimension works with the other two to help students build a cohesive understanding of science over time.
Social Studies American Education Reaches Out (AERO) provides standards for curriculum consistency across grades K-12 in overseas schools. AERO is supported by the U.S. State Department’s Office of Overseas Schools (A/OPR/OS) and the Overseas Schools Advisory Council to assist schools in developing and implementing standards-based curricula.
Art, Music National Core Arts Standards (NCAS) are written for five arts disciplines; Dance, Media Arts, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts. National Core Arts Standards include Pre K to 8th grade and at three proficiency levels in high school.
Chinese American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) is dedicated to the improvement and expansion of the teaching and learning of all languages at all levels of instruction.
Library American A ssociation of School Librarians (AASL) empowers leaders to transform teaching and learning. AASL’s standards committee is responsible for working with AASL staff to develop and carry out the implementation plan for the National School Library Standards (NSLS).
ICT Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) The CSTA K–12 Computer Science Standards delineate a core set of learning objectives designed to provide the foundation for a complete computer science curriculum and its implementation at the K–12 level.

(all) 21st Century skills are twelve abilities that today’s students need to succeed in their careers. These are skills, abilities, and learning dispositions that have been identified as being required for success in 21st century society and workplaces by educators, business leaders, academics, and governmental agencies.
ESL, Library, Social Studies, Science WIDA sets English learning targets for the academic success and development of multilingual learners. The WIDA framework serves as a resource for planning and implementing language instruction and assessment for multilingual learners as they learn English academic content.
(all) International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) inspires educators worldwide to use technology to innovate teaching and learning, accelerate good practice and solve tough problems in education by providing community, knowledge and the ISTE Standards, a framework for rethinking education and empowering learners.
(all) Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) focuses on an integral part of education and human development. Social and emotional learning is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions.
