Essential Components

ClassDojo AD AS STEAM

LIIP teachers and staff use ClassDojo to reward students for positive attributes and behaviors. The criterion for points are posted in each classroom and common area for students to be cognizant of which actions are awarded with points and which actions earn a penalty. Students and parents keep track of their Dojo points throughout the quarter. At the end of the quarter, students exchange their accumulated points for currency to use at the Market to purchase prizes, school supplies, snacks, and other goodies.

Houses AD STEAM

Students who attend the All-Day and STEAM programs are sorted into Houses: Baekje, Gaya, Goguryeo, and Silla. Each house is led by a teacher who champion and guide students before school, on field trips, and during house competitions. House students have lunch and snacks together. The house leader encourages good eating habits and proper etiquette. The main functions of the house system are to:

  1. engage in community, mentoring, and teamwork
  2. compete weekly for the right to be 1st in lunch line
  3. gain and lose behavioral ClassDojo points together
  4. make big brothers and sisters of senior students
  5. encourage camaraderie & mentorship
  6. work towards common goals

Trait Awards AD

Each month LIIP students focus on a different character trait. At the end of the month the students who best exemplified the monthly character trait receive awards and other bonuses. There is no minimum or maximum number of students for each award. The staff at LIIP monitor student behavior and interactions closely and compare notes and observations to determine if an award has been earned.

Events AD AS STEAM

LIIP runs events to provide alternate learning situations for students. For example, the quarterly Market event allows students to employ critical thinking, math, money management, listening and speaking, and persuasion skills while incorporating economics which all students learn in social studies.

Spirit Week is held twice a year, in the spring to help build attention and awareness of the house system for new students and again in the fall to further strengthen house affiliations and camaraderie. More common Halloween and Christmas celebrations are combined into an event called the Holiday Masquerade (a costume or mask are required!) before the winter break. Other events include outdoor days when LIIP travels to different locations for science, art, humanities, and physical education courses.

Field Trips AD STEAM

Field trips are a regular part of LIIP. Like events, field trips allow students to apply what they have been learning in the classroom to the world. Field trips are both educational and fun.

Sports Day AD

LIIP has a sports day for parents, students, and staff to gather and compete in friendly competitions. Sports days always take place at the Jinseong Campus.
