LIIP Expectations & Rules

Expectations

LIIP uses these expectations to guide administration of ClassDojo and the creation of skills points allotments. These expectations extend to the families of LIIP students—LIIP recognizes the family unit as an essential part of a child's success or failure.

  1. Students will put in their best effort.
  2. Students will use class time to learn.
  3. Students will be kind always.
  4. Students will respect the right of others to be educated.
  5. Students will communicate their thoughts and feelings before acting on them.

School Rules

LIIP's school rules forgo the usual list of behavioral annoyances that school rules often become. Instead LIIP focuses on the things we have identified as growing into a responsible and thoughtful citizen. LIIP students still run in the hallways, forget to do their homework, and are late to class, but LIIP teachers lean into positive reinforcement first. The behaviors we want to see are rewarded, daily.

  1. Use English (or Chinese) as your 1st language
  2. Follow arrival and departure procedures
  3. Use the stairs
  4. Line up to wait
  5. Knock before entering a room
  6. Clean up after yourself
  7. Take responsibility for your actions
  8. If it’s not transition, have a hall pass
  9. Giving up is not an option; try again later
  10. Talk it out / Use your words
  11. Have a reason

Classroom Rules

Most LIIP teachers have their own, additional rules posted in their classrooms for students to learn and abide by. Students are encouraged by each other, teachers, and administrators to follow all rules and exceed all expectations.

Homeroom Norms & Procedures

Each LIIP Homeroom Teacher works with students in their class at the beginning of the year to establish norms and procedures which guide LIIP students towards better communication and organization. Additionally, Homerooms have a morning checklist that students follow as part of their arrival routine. This checklist sets good habits for daily success.
